Many international students work on campus to earn money. On-campus employment is a very standard part of the university experience for Americans, too. International students in F-1 or J-1 status are allowed by immigration regulations to work up to 20 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters while classes are in session and up to 28 hours during official university breaks.
F-1 and J-1 students are not permitted to work off campus without prior authorization. In most cases, off-campus work authorization cannot be approved until after the student has completed one full academic year (two full-time semesters). Never work off campus before first speaking with an International Student Advisor.
